As airports increasingly embrace new technologies, Southeast Asia is emerging as a pivotal player in this transformation. From automated baggage handling to AI-powered operations and seamless biometric check-ins, digitalization is reshaping both landside and airside operations. This panel will bring together leading experts to discuss how airports and ground handlers can navigate this shift while ensuring scalability, sustainability, and a people-centric approach. We will also explore strategies to overcome infrastructure limitations, regulatory challenges, and cost pressures, all while capitalizing on growing passenger traffic and green initiatives.

The webinar will cover:

  • How AI, biometrics, and automation streamline airport operations for seamless travel
  • Strategies for overcoming infrastructure bottlenecks to enhance airport efficiency
  • Integrating eco-friendly practices into smart airport design
  • Balancing technological upgrades with cost-efficiency for long-term growth

Panellists

Aldwin Uy
Deputy Chief Operations Officer
Mactan-Cebu International Airport

Aldwin is a Certified Licensed Architect with 23 years of extensive experience in operations, management, design and planning, project and construction management. He further expanded his aviation expertise at Dammam International Airport and King Fahd International Airport in Saudi Arabia. Now serving as the Deputy Chief Operations Officer, Aldwin is dedicated to enhancing operational efficiency and delivering an exceptional customer experience at Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

Aldwin Uy has been instrumental in advancing Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) as a “smart airport,” particularly through sustainability-focused initiatives like the implementation of bridge-mounted equipment (BME) technology. This system includes eco-friendly Fixed Power Units (FPU) and Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) services, designed to reduce reliance on diesel-powered auxiliary power units. The FPUs allow aircraft to connect to an electric power source while on the ground, while PCA units deliver pre-conditioned air directly to parked aircraft. This transition to BME is expected to reduce carbon emissions, fuel costs, and noise pollution, benefiting both the environment and the local community.

Other several notable projects at Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) focused on operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and customer experience:

  1. Skytrax 4-Star Rating and Service Excellence Campaign: Uy helped drive efforts that led to MCIA’s Terminal 2 receiving a 4-star rating from Skytrax, which recognizes high service standards, staff efficiency, and overall passenger experience. Building on this achievement, Uy supports the “Abiba Sugbo” campaign, which encourages public voting for MCIA in the Skytrax “Best Airport Staff” category, aiming to position MCIA as a top airport in customer service globally.
  2. ACI Level 1 and Level 2 Customer Accreditations: Uy played an instrumental role in Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) achieving both Level 1 and Level 2 Customer Experience Accreditations from Airports Council International (ACI). His contributions focused on establishing and enhancing a customer-centric approach to airport operations and passenger satisfaction. These actions positioned MCIA as a leader in customer experience, and Uy’s contributions helped it become the first Philippine airport to reach these ACI levels, setting new standards in the country.
  3. Architectural and Operational Contributions: Uy’s background as a licensed architect has been valuable in his role, where he has overseen the planning, design, and execution of airport operations and infrastructure projects. His experience includes work at other international airports, which has enriched his approach to enhancing MCIA’s facilities and operational strategies.

Through these projects, Uy has strengthened MCIA’s commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and passenger satisfaction, aligning the airport with global standards.
